Share Your Voice: The Future of Housing in Michigan
Op Ed By The Michigan State Housing Development Authority
For centuries, minority voices have
all-too-often been ignored or left unheard through practices of
discrimination, marginalization, and disenfranchisement. This is
particularly true when it comes to opportunities that offer
economic security and advancement.
One such opportunity is housing. We
know that safe, affordable housing is a cornerstone of diverse
and thriving communities, and one way to ensure equitable
housing practices and the dismantling of historically
discriminatory practices is to include the voices of the often
unheard and use those voices to inform programs and policies.
The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA)
is creating a Statewide Housing Plan – the first of its kind in
Michigan – that will inform statewide housing and homeownership
programs and policies over the next five years. To guide the
development of those programs in an equitable, inclusive manner,
we need your help.
