Tasked with the daily maintenance of facilities, buses and much
more, the cleaning crew ensures the cleanliness of TARTA
buildings like the Downtown Hub transit center and the Toledo
Area Regional Paratransit Service (TARPS). Crews are on site
daily thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting high touch surfaces,
fueling buses, checking fluids and making sure vehicles are
cleaned for the next day of service.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, cleaning protocols for crews
have become more aggressive to stop the spread of COVID-19 and
to protect staff from possible exposure.
COVID-19, now cleanliness has gotten even more of a priority.
We are now disinfecting driver areas wiping down everything from
steering wheels to all handrails, seats and mopping the buses
Peggy McConoughey, a TARPS night service employee.
McConoughey also offered words of encouragement to staff during
these challenging times.
this time, I just want people to know that we need to help each
other out, not with just doing our jobs, but life in general.
We can get through anything if we work together. Let’s all do
our part and get though any obstacles that we come face to face
TARTA has also enlisted the help of partners like Team Johnson,
Toledo Building Service, AAA Standard Service and Goodwill
Industries to clean TARTA buses and facilities.
Adding another level of cleaning power, Toledo Building Service
and AAA Standard Service have also implemented disinfectant
fogger technology. This product provides elevated protection
against the spread of germs by covering all surfaces including
those that are hard to reach.
To date, Team Johnson, a cleaning and detailing agency based in
Swan Creek Township, has cleaned nearly 150 buses out of 191
fleetwide. The cleaning agency has been contracted to continue
deep cleaning coaches until further notice.
Goodwill Industries has also been working closely with TARTA
during the COVID-19 pandemic. Assisting with the cleaning of
shelters and buses, members of Goodwill Industries disinfect
buses each Sunday for the next week of service.
