Mom’s House gives back to celebrate Father’s Day.

TOLEDO, June 10, 2020: The DADS MATTER clients of Mom’s House gave back through volunteer work last Saturday, June 13. Fathers—who have a desire to grow and become more involved in the life of their child—put their hands to work by renovating an outdoor quiet space at Mom's House with the help of community volunteers.

According to Christina Rodriguez, executive director of Mom’s House, ‘the need for a father in the life of a child is critical. The goal of this new program is to help fathers set priorities and develop effective parenting skills. The program emphasizes the important role of fathers in supporting a child's physical, emotional, and behavioral needs; the benefits of a positive relationship; and the risks of failing to fulfill responsibilities.’

The Cornerstone Church Prison Ministry men worked alongside the fathers to teach and guide them as they work on a renovation of an outdoor space.

Sponsorship for this project comes from Sandman Sales Yard, Lowe’s, and Luck Landscaping.  Mentors who have been a part of the Dads Matter Program from the beginning, like Dennis Hopson, Chief Brian Byrd, and Brandon Fields were in attendance and sharing lunch to encourage and wish the dads a Happy Father’s Day.

Christina Rodriguez said, “It means so much that the young fathers are putting their hands to work and sowing back into their child and their community. We see a desire from the young men who do want to be involved and we feel strongly that it is our responsibility to the children to create the best scenario possible. Having a father who is willing to grow, learn, give and change is critical to the life of any child!”
