For the first time, The
Blade is partnering with La-Z-Boy Galleries for a chance to
watch the parade in style. One lucky winner of the Best Seat
in the House contest will be able to sit with up to five
guests in a custom La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries’ outdoor VIP
living room. Contestants must be 18 years of age to be eligible
and can submit entries at bladeparade.toledoblade.com. The
contest ends at midnight on November 11. The winner will be
notified on November 12.
Former NFL punter
Brandon Fields and his wife, Katie, will be the
grand marshals. Fields, a St. John’s Jesuit High School
graduate, was named to All-America teams in 2004 during his
sophomore year at Michigan State University when he led the
nation in punting average. He played nine seasons in the NFL —
eight with the Miami Dolphins (2007-14) and a brief stint with
the New Orleans Saints (2015).
While in Miami, the couple
founded the Brandon and Katie Fields Youth Fitness Fund to
encourage physical activity. Katie is a Notre Dame Academy and
Bowling Green State University graduate who received a doctorate
in chiropractic while living in Florida. Brandon and Katie are
currently part owners of Inside the Five Brewing Co. in
Sylvania. They live in Sylvania with their three children —
Skyler (5), Trace (3), and Nora (2).
Before the parade, the
Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Relay, 5K and Family Fun Run
will take place. It begins at The Blade parking lot at 8:30 a.m.
(Family Fun Run at 9:15 a.m.).
