Vote by mail and early voting in the November 6, 2018 General Election is running higher in most cities in the nation; for example, in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio: the turnout is higher than during the last mid-term Election in 2014 when turnout reached 40%. 


 “Based on vote by mail and early voting activity, we are looking at election turnout of 48% to 50%,” said Pat McDonald the Director of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.  “I hope people will help keep the momentum going by continuing to request vote by mail ballots and by voting early at the Board of Elections,” said McDonald.   


In Cuyahoga County, the Board projects:

432,000 Total ballots cast

276,480 Election Day

155,520 Vote by mail (10% of requested ballots are normally not returned.)

7,000 early voters (included in the vote by mail total)


The current number of ballot requests is: 165,444       

153,773: the number ballot requests in 2014 


The current number of early voters: 3,491                         

1,141 in 2014 at this time before the Election


This is also the first time in 7 years that the voter registration roles have exceeded 900,000 in a November Election.  “I want to thank all of the people who conducted, or took part in registration drives that resulted in thousands of new registered voters.  This helped push the registration rolls to their historic levels,” said McDonald.


In Cuyahoga County, Ohio, people who wish to cast a ballot by mail are encouraged to submit their vote by mail ballot applications as soon as possible.  To request a ballot application visit: www.443vote.com, or call 216-443-VOTE (8683).  They are also available at all public libraries. 


Early voting is available on the following dates at these times:


Weekdays       through October 26th                            8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Saturday         October 27th                                        8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Weekdays       October 29th to November 2nd              8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Saturday          November 3rd                                      8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Sunday            November 4th                                      1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Monday           November 5th                                       8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.


The Board of Elections is located at 2925 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland. 


For other cities, check with the county’s Board of Elections ASAP.
